Music-swollen

I thought the Oscar orchestra was supposed to wrangle acceptance speeches by playing blabbing winners off the stage. But when Rachel Weisz got up to accept her Best Supporting Actress award, the orchestra immediately started backing her up, add to the unnecessary mooniness typical of acceptance speeches. It's interesting that the Oscars show should indulge in something that constantly makes movies unbearable--the strings swelling up behind the monumental speech. I see just now that it's happening again with Memoirs Of A Geisha art director John Myhre. Really, maybe these people are kissing ass, maybe they're being sincere, but the orchestra always deprives them of the benefit of the doubt.
